Tom & Loren Smith created Hootchie Cootchie BBQ in 2004 out of a love of cooking and competing.  Loren created their rub which Tom blended into their signature BBQ sauce – Sassy.

In 2005, Sassy took 3^rd place in the first ever Amateur Sauce competition at the American Royal World Series of BBQ.  That helped cement the idea that Sassy needed to be shared with everyone.
